Okanagan, off-season

3 days Max 12 Relaxed Cycling, Food & farms

ABOUT THIS TRIP

A long weekend of orchards, small producers and no crowds — because going in October is the better choice anyway.

October is the Okanagan’s best-kept secret: the harvest is on, the lake is still warm enough to swim, and the tasting rooms belong to the people who actually live here.

Three days by bike and van along the Naramata Bench, stopping at orchards, a cidery, a bakery and a farm stand — all of them small, all of them owned by the families who run them.

How hard
Easy to moderate — mostly flat rail trail and quiet bench roads, with one 30 km day. E-bikes are available on request, and the support van can take anyone who would rather skip a stretch.

THE ECOSCORE

EcoScore Breakdown

4.4

out of 5

Scored on five published criteria.

4/5
Transport impact
Guests meet in Kelowna and most of the loop is covered on foot and by bike. A van carries bags and covers the long gaps.
5/5
Local sourcing
Every stop is a producer inside the valley — orchards, a cidery, a bakery, a farm stand.
5/5
Group size
Twelve people, capped. Tastings stay private and the back roads stay quiet.
4/5
Community benefit
Family farms and a co-op own most of the stops. The van is the one supplier from outside the valley.
4/5
Operator transparency
Pricing and the supplier list were provided on request and checked against receipts.

Orchards before the crowds

1

Kelowna

Meet in Kelowna, ride the rail trail, taste at the first two producers.

The group meets at a Kelowna bakery at nine, picks up bikes, and follows the rail trail south out of the city. The first stop is an orchard that has been in the same family since 1948, where the apples are still picked by hand.

Lunch is at a farm stand that doubles as a kitchen, and the afternoon is a gentle ride to the first night’s guesthouse. Dinner is cooked by the people who grew it.

A bench of small producers

2

Naramata Bench

The quiet road along the bench, with tastings and a swim in the lake.

The Naramata Bench is a shelf of orchards and vineyards above the lake, threaded by a road with almost no traffic. Today is the longest ride and the best one.

Stops are small and unhurried: a cidery, a goat farm, and a winery that only sells from the door. There is time for a swim before the second guesthouse.

The last of the season

3

Okanagan Falls

A short ride, one last harvest stop, and back to Kelowna.

The final morning is a short ride to a farm that presses its own cider and sells the last of the season’s fruit. Nothing is rushed; the harvest sets the pace.

Lunch is at the farm, and the van returns the group to Kelowna by mid-afternoon — early enough for a late flight or a night in town.

We listed them because every stop on their route is a business they have a personal relationship with — and because they refused to add a stop that would have made the day longer but emptier.
